Ballots have begun arriving for the 2018 Primary election. Your ballot might look different from your neighbors and that is okay. Let me explain why.
There are two kinds of elections.
Nonpartisan: Candidates do not have to declare party affiliation and all candidates for the position go through the primary together
–and–
Partisan: Candidates declare party affiliations and run under those parties
In nonpartisan elections the field of candidates must be narrowed down to 2 contenders per available position for the final ballot in November. In partisan elections the field of candidates must be narrowed down to one contender from each party for the final ballot in November. This narrowing is the purpose of the primary elections.
Throughout Davis County there are 6 races that need to be narrowed as well as the Republican nominee for US Senate and the Democratic nominee for US House district 1. Below you will find links to all of the candidates who have websites listed on the Davis County election page, starting with local non-partisan races and working up to the national races.
