Hello Dear Friends-
I am saddened to have to send this message but I am going to have to withdraw from the city council race. I discovered this week that the policy of the Utah State Courts, my employer, is that it is for employees to run for, be appointed to, or hold public office at any level of government. I made this discovery on my own while doing my annual review of the policy and immediately reached out to the powers that be. Unfortunately, this is not a policy for which they are willing to make an exception. I have spent the last 18 hours deeply considering all of the factors at play and have decided that, given the rock and a hard place I put myself into, I owe the greatest duty of care to the kids under my stewardship at work. With this in mind, I will be going into the city offices this morning to file my withdrawal and then working to gather signs and take down other campaigning measures.
I am, truly, heartbroken to not be able to pursue serving on the city council. I have gained so much strength in feeling the support of friends and neighbors and been excited about being a part of building our city moving forward. I apologize for my oversight and any complications this may cause. Thank you for your understanding and the work that you do to make our city a great place to live!
