Hi All!
Ballots are going to be hitting mailboxes in the coming days. If you could share my info with your friends and family, I would be greatly appreciative.

I am interested in how you would have voted on the rezoning of 1450 Burton Lane from R-1-20 to LI?
Hi Donna-
This is a hard one for me to answer. When the rezone first came before the council, I felt that the rezone made sense. If it had come before the council before any improvements had been done on the land, I do not think it would have even been a question. From a logistical point of view, I think it makes sense. However, as the months drew on, I found my position changing simply because there was such opposition to the LI use. Like it or not, improvements were done without proper zoning which, in turn, made the downsides more visible.
I think that these decisions have to be made with a long term vision in mind. While I believe that maintaining property rights are important and I think that encouraging some economic development is a needed, I also think that has to be balanced out with the voice of the people living in the area. No one is ever going to welcome light industrial into their back yards. However, if it is for the betterment of the community, this should be able to be communicated. This is where I felt the failing came. I never heard a viable argument for why this was good/needed. I probably would have voted against the rezone for this reason. That being said, I do not think anything was done illegally or improperly in approving the rezone.
I don’t know if this helps but those are my thoughts. Feel free to reach out if you have other questions!
